Having a hard time with finding the right foods to eat with your braces? Sure, the food restrictions can be rough, but simply choosing food that will not be too hard to clean out of your teeth can be a problem also. Well, we have been thinking of you and have some helpful recipes that are dentist approved to be tasty and not too troublesome to eat with braces. Here’s a yummy rice and seafood casserole to try out.

-2 cups boiled rice
-1 small can of crab meat (about 1 cup)
-1 small can of shrimp (about 1 cup)
-1 teaspoon salt
-½ teaspoon paprika
-¼ teaspoon dry mustard
-2 to 3 tablespoons sherry
-2 cups medium white sauce (see below for recipe)
-½ cup buttered crumbs
-½ cup grated cheese

-Place boiled rice in a greased casserole or in individual ramekins. Top with crab meat and shrimp.
-Add seasonings and sherry to white sauce; pour over rice and seafood. Top with buttered crumbs, cheese and a dash of paprika.
-Bake in a moderate oven (375° F.) about 25 minutes or until browned. Makes 4 to 6 servings


-3 tablespoons butter
-2 tablespoons flour
-1 teaspoon salt
-¼ teaspoon pepper
-2 cups milk

-Melt butter over low heat; add flour, salt and pepper; stir until well blended. Remove from heat.
-Gradually stir in milk and return to heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until thick and smooth. Makes 2 cups.
