To help your alignment or make room for another tooth, your dentist may recommend for you to have a tooth extracted. This is especially considered when a tooth cannot be repaired by any treatment, including a crown or filling. Oquirrh Dental here in Magna, Utah, wants to provide the comfort and care you deserve with our latest technology advancements.

If your problem is listed below, you may need a tooth extraction:

– To make room for teeth moving when installing braces.
– Additional teeth blocking other growing teeth.
– Baby teeth not coming out.
– You have a severe infection in the tooth, or a damaged/broken tooth.

To extract a tooth, your dental and medical history will be looked over and an X-ray will be taken when deciding between a simple or surgical extraction. When you can observe the tooth inside the mouth, a simple extraction can be done. This is simply a procedure where your tooth is loosened with an elevator dental tool and removed with the forceps, a dental tool also needed for surgical extraction.

Surgical extraction is needed if the tooth isn’t visible and underneath the gums, or when the tooth is broken or damaged, especially at the gum line. For this more complex procedure, a small incision is made in the gums where the forceps tool removes the infected or damaged tooth. If needed, bone around the tooth is eliminated or the tooth is cut in half.
